Royal Mail Service Disruptions

Every single parcel and letter is important to us. Despite our best efforts and significant investment in extra resource, some customers may experience slightly longer delivery timescales than our usual service standards.

This is due to the exceptionally high volumes of mail posted during this further lockdown period, alongside necessary coronavirus-related measures we have put in place in local mail centres and delivery offices to keep our people and customers safe. In such cases, we always work hard to get back to providing our usual level of service as quickly as we can.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Thursday 25 February 2021

We're delivering and collecting mail in all parts of the UK today. However, deliveries may be disrupted in some areas due to resourcing issues at some of our delivery offices.

Due to resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures, deliveries in the following areas are likely to be disrupted this week.

In those areas that are temporarily affected by very high levels of absence, customers can expect deliveries at least every other day. It will only be in extreme cases when this may not be possible, but these are the exception and are listed below.

We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. We’re working hard to deliver as comprehensive a service as possible with the resource available to support these offices. And we’re ensuring we prioritise delivery of vaccination letters.

Not all mail was able to travel on the flight from East Midlands to Belfast last night due to the aircraft reaching full capacity, and was sent on via the road/ferry network. As a result, some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK for delivery today in Northern Ireland may arrive later than planned.

Snow and icy conditions at our East Midlands Airport resulted in disruption to several flights last night, an overview of these an how service may be affected follows:

  • Due to the conditions at East Midlands airport not all mail could be unloaded from the flight from Edinburgh on time. As a result, a small amount of mail posted yesterday in Central and Southern Scotland for delivery today in other parts of the UK may arrive slightly behind schedule.
  • The bad weather together with a technical issue with a security screening device meant not all mail was able to travel on the flight to Edinburgh and was transferred via the road network. In addition, the weather conditions meant the aircraft was delayed from taking off and arrived late into Edinburgh. As a result, some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK for delivery today in Central and Southern Scotland may arrive later than expected.

As a result, some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK for delivery today in the far South West of England may arrive later than planned.

International delivery update – Temporary suspension of some international services due to Coronavirus transport impacts

  • This is a fast-moving situation and we are monitoring things on an hourly basis. We are working to keep as many international mail services running as possible given the current restrictions around air, road, ferry and train movements from the UK.
  • Royal Mail has temporarily suspended all mail services to Europe, with the exception of the Republic of Ireland.
  • We are keeping the situation under close and constant review.
  • Customers should check our website for regular updates.

Items that are already in the system will be processed as normal and made ready for dispatch. These items will be held securely until we are able to get them to their relevant destinations.

We're closely monitoring the situation and are ready to open our services as soon as we are able to once the restrictions have been lifted. We continue to explore all options.

We're working with our airline and postal/courier partners across the globe to maintain services, however delays should be expected. Many countries have implemented special measure to combat the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19, especially for signature service to maintain social distancing. The number of countries we can access is changing daily.

We strongly advise not to send items to destinations listed as ‘On suspension’.
